01/31/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Matt is an athletic OF who continues to develop. Foot speed has improved as he now runs his 60 in 7.20. In the OF, he gets good jumps and takes solid routes/angles and tracks down fly-balls working into position behind the ball. He secures the ball with soft hands, works through it well and makes accurate throws into his target. Offensively, this righty shows fluid rhythm to load waiting for his pitch. Swing is level/direct to contact as he looks to drive the middle of the field. More extension through contact will help to increase power. Only a 2018 grad - Matt is a hard working play who still has a couple of years to progress and get stronger.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Matt continues to show improvements / progress in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, defensive grades are now well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he continues to increase foot quickness. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improve as well through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping off bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Power grades will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower more aggressively. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard with the makings of a special type player at he continues to develop.

08/09/2015 - College PREP - Kapolei (Honolulu), HI Matt is a 5'6/130 lbs OF that will graduate in 2018. Offensively, he showed an ability to find the barrel with a quiet head and direct bat path. He used his hands & hips to get the barrel through the zone and worked in the middle of the field with his approach. In the outfield, he worked with a sure glove after getting to a good fielding position, on-time. He took decent angles to make plays with a quick first step. He caught the baseball at a high point with the glove and as he continues to work his momentum to throw will add velocity and carry. In all - Matt has 3 years to strengthen his fundamental skills for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
