Mattingly is a strong, athletic outfield prospect. He is a very good hitter with excellent bat speed that leads to very good power at the plate. Mattingly has good rhythm at the plate, keeping his hands moving and getting his foot down on time. He is aggressive at the plate and uses a short, direct bat path to handle pitches all over the strike zone. Using less top hand at times will allow Mattingly to get more lift on his swing and tap into his power potential. As a fielder, he has natural, fluid actions, getting behind fly-balls hit his way and taking good angles to ground balls. He also shows off sure hands to field and an accurate arm throwing to his target. Overall, Mattingly has a solid skill-set and we look forward to watching him continue to progress.

Simaan continues to work hard and make great strides in his game. With the bat, this strong righty steps into the box looking to take a hack. He whips the barrel with speed and connects with strength, driving the ball on a line to all parts of the field (exit velocity = 87 mph). In the OF, he works lightly on the balls of his feet and covers a ton of ground (60 yard dash = 6.85). He has a smooth transfer and fires accurate throws with carry into his target. Mattingly is a projectable OF who will make an impact when he steps onto the diamond.
12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2
Mattingly continues to show growth and consistency in his game. Offensively, he showed a tall setup with active hands to launch. He generated decent bat speed with good leverage, but needs to continue to work his top hand extension for more line-drive contact. In the outfield, he showed more comfortability and feel than in past events. He came to get the ball well and made plays with a sure glove. His first step has become more efficient and with additional arm strength (and lower half use) will be a more complete player. All in all - Mattingly is a great kid to work with and be around as he has a strong work ethic and desire to improve.
10/01/2014 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic
Mattingly was back at it again at the Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he was strong in his stance and went 2-6 in his AB's with 3 BB's and a HBP. He hit a 2B in his third at bat and constantly pressured the defense. He has a tendency to change his eye level to get to his launch position which will cause the pitch angle to increase - resulting in topping the ball on the ground. Offensively, he worked behind the ball and made plays with the proper footwork to throw. He needs to continue getting reps and taking balls live off the bat in bp. Overall - Mattingly is a hardworking leader that plays the game hard and has a great attitude.

Mattingly showed improvement from previous Baseball Factory events. He improved his velocity by an astounding 8 MPH and cut down on his 60-time to 7.38. Defensively, he has a quick arm release and hits his cutoffs well. He is aggressive and plays through the ball toward his target. Offensively, he has a quick bat and uses those hands to stay inside the ball. By activating the hands sooner, getting rhythm through the swing and making sure that he has consistent timing, he will see improved success at the dish. This young player will develop and become a desired target for college coaches.

Offensively, he hit from a level path with direct hands. He got extended through contact and had good bat speed through the zone. In all - Mattingly is an intriguing 2017 that we look forward to working with and tracking through high school.
12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City
Mattingly is a very coachable young man who listens and works hard to be the best player he can be. This is the second tournament we have seen him in. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls in making his plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness, works on angles, and works to get behind balls more to play through. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. He can also work on squaring his shoulders more on his throws and releasing the ball quicker. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup and he consistently gets the barrell through the zone. Hands are loose and he shows good eye / hand coordination as he puts the ball in play. He shows a feel for the barrel with ball jumping off the bat when centered. He has good bat speed for a younger player. For hitting grades to continue to continue to improve, he needs to work on using his lower half more and staying closed. He can also work on hitting the outside pitch. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more as well. At the event, he was 2 for 6 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball shows some sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and work to throw more strikes.
10/23/2013 - Arizona Freshman/Sophomore Fall Classic
Simaan is an athlete and put his athleticism on display in Arizona at the Fall Classic. Defensively, he takes a quick first step and works to get behind the fly-ball. He has a clean exchange and delivers accurate throws toward his target. At the plate, Mattingly is patient and waits for his pitch. He delivers the barrel on a level path and drives the ball on a line. He hits the ball where it's pitched and drives it to all fields. More lower 1/2 drive will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Simaan is a coachable, hard working player who has a lot of time to continue to develop his game.

Mattingly is a lean OF/RHP that will graduate in 2017. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls and play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Matt shows squared / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he adds more overall body strength. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 68-72 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with loose spin and gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 4 years to further develop, Mattingly has the makings to be a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
