07/07/2020 - 2020 Baseball Factory's National West Showcase Matty performed well at the Baseball Factory West Showcase. He is a physical (6'2"/200) OF prospect who plays aggressively and with an air of confidence. At the plate, he uses his strong core to make a clean move through contact that generates high impact from the barrel (96 mph exit velocity). He utilizes the whole field well and has some present power with even more on the way. Defensively, Matty uses his speed (6.89) to close on balls and has an accurate arm that can play at any of the OF spots. This is a hard-working player who should be an impact guy at the next level.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matty is a strong OF prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Matty shows active footwork and is smooth moving to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front with sure hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good backspin through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is fluid getting his hands activated in his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to great gap to gap pop. Overall, Matty is a talented prospect who will be one to follow going into his junior season.

06/01/2019 - 2019 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Matty is an athletic and strong 2021 OF prospect. In the OF, Matty is on time with his prep step, he has good footwork to the ball, and fields the ball in an athletic position. He works behind the ball, creates momentum in his lower half, and has carry on the ball. At the plate, Matty starts in a tall and open stance. He loads his hands back into the drive position, stays balanced through contact, and creates backside drive with his lower half. He has a quiet head, attacks the inside part of the ball, and has a short swing path. Matty looks for the ball middle-out and drives the ball gap to gap. Matty has tremendous upside and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Matty is an athletic and talented 2021 OF prospect. At the plate, Matty starts in a squared stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He gets his front foot down on time, creates backside drive with his lower half, and rotates his core throughout the swing. In game he has a middle approach and when on base he gets good jumps off the pitcher. Matty will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
