09/08/2012 - Infield Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 12-14) Max is a young player who showed good improvements over the weekend. His fielding position improved by raising his rear instead of squatting down, this adjustment allowed a flatter chest and a stronger position. He can continue to work on this position as well as presenting his glove further out in front. Max showed good range to his left side, which he showed a better fielding position. Keep in mind that balls to the left are easier to set up for because your body is already to the right of the ball. On balls at him focus on getting to the right so you can get the same feeling as working left to the ball. This will help get his body inline and build up momentum to his target. Max displayed a clean exchange with a short arm action but can benefit from a long toss program to continue to build arm strength. Footwork around the bag on double plays were good but focus on receiving with two hands for a quicker exchange. With 2 years to further develop before high school, Max shows abilities with room to continue to improve and get stronger. Focus on the footwork drills we reviewed to improve with foot speed, which will help with overall fielding skills.
