Official Scouting Report

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Max continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.40. Defensive abilities at 3B have improved as he displays smooth / clean actions. He works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure but will benefit by presenting more out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and whip through the zone. He has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he works to increase his lower half more efficiently. On the bump, he displays a sound / repeatable delivery, working in line and on time allowing his arm to work loose / free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 80-83 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel and is deceptive. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. He shows good composure and competes on the mound. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

09/04/2016 - College PREP - Livonia, MI Max is a thick, solid 3B/RHP who has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. At 3B, he displays smooth, fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works to square balls up. Glove action is soft but will benefit by presenting more out front. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. Range will increase as he increases foot quickness. On the mound, he shows a good upside. Fastball showed a range of 80-84 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Max has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
