Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

07/23/2012 - 2012 Team One Northeast Showcase Karp continues to show as an OF/RHP but projects slightly on the mound for the next level where he has improved his abilities. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 84 mph. Fastball showed a range of 82-84 mph through an outstanding / repeatable delivery. Breaking ball is a quality pitch that will get outs at the next level, displaying 11/5 shape with tight spin and sharp break. He shows a solid feel for his changeup as he maintains arm speed but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Slider shows 10/4 shape with gradual break and loose spin. Control / command is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, attacking hitters. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. At the plate, hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event he was 1 for 3.

01/13/2012 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Max is a strong, athletic two-position player who showed well in the infield and on the mound at Pirate City. At 3B, Max sets up and preps well and has solid glove work. His feet work well for a big guy and he shows a good feel laterally. He plays a bit high and tends to field the ball deep. With the bat, Max has good balance, good load, and short stride. Bat speed is present and his power is to the big part of the field. Letting the ball travel deeper into the hitting zone will help his hitting abilities improve. On the mound, he has a clean, loose arm and a sound delivery. Mound effectiveness will improve if he can stay taller and speed up his tempo a bit. He has room to be more aggressive in attacking hitters. He has a feel at each spot and will only continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
