06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Max is a young, athletic catcher that will graduate in 2017 and has a ton of potential both offensive and defensively. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.07-2.22 with accuracy / carry on his throws as he displays well above average arm strength. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared with balance setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and work through swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact with ball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with a 2B and 3B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and shows good leadership behind the plate. With 3 years to further develop, Max shows the makings off a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.
