Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

03/28/2010 - College PREP - Providence, RI Max's arm strength has improved once again as he topped out at 78 mph on the mound and throws displaying life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. Transfer / exchange is clean and efficient as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Foot work around the bag is a plus as he has an idea in his defensive play, improving grade. On the mound, delivery has improved as he now shows sound mechanics allowing his arm action to work loose and free away from his body. He needs to work on a consistent release point with his breaking ball.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Nowicki continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved to slightly above average through a loose arm action. Glove action is soft, sure as he showed to ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, hitting and power grades have improved to slightly above average through a strong, compact swing as he was 4 for 8 with a 2B at the event. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-74 mph with heavy sinking action on a downhill plane but still projects best as a position player for the next level.

08/23/2009 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Max is a 1B/RHP that currently projects best as a position player. His strength lies at the plate where he shows a balanced, level approach while spraying the baseball. A shorter path and increase bat speed will help him continue to improve. At 1B, he shows good lateral movement and quick feet with soft hands and accurate throws. He can work to field the ball more out front to be even better with the glove. On the mound Nowicki achieves some downhill plane on his pitches, gets to a decent balance point, and shows solid arm action. He can work to get to a better, more on time separation and be more consistent with his direction towards the plate. His off speed pitches are his strength as he shows good feel and movement with his CH. His CB flashed good break, but his release points needs to become more consistent. A decent sized young man, Nowicki has room to fill out and strengthen up as he matures physically.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
