Official Scouting Report

06/01/2019 - 2019 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Max is an athletic RHP/SS prospect who will graduate in 2020. Max shows tremendous upside on the mound, working through a smooth delivery and commanding his pitches well. He shows an advanced three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 92mph. Breaking ball sits from 75-80mph with sharp 11-5 break. Changeup sits at 82mph with good sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. In the field, Max shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He takes a direct swing with explosive bat speed, leading to loud contact and pull side power. Overall, Max is a talented prospect who will be one of the top two-way prospects in his class.

06/02/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Max is an athletic RHP/SS who is a prospect on the diamond. Delivery is sound/repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 91-94 mph with arm side run and sink. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break and is an outstanding pitch that will get outs. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for the pitch with arm side run. Command/control is tremendous as he locates well to both sides of the plate. Defensive abilities are outstanding. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and presents well out front. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. At the plate, he continues to shine, through an athletic setup. Hands are quick as he whips through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel, driving balls to all fields. With 2 years to further develop, Max has a tremendous upside, possibly as a two-way guy and will be a solid 2020 draft pick.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
