12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Maxwell shined once again at the event in Pirate City. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a tall, narrow setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 64-67 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

03/20/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Goshen, KY Maxwell continues to show progress in his baseball tools at the Goshen event. In the OF, feet are active as he shows an aggressive approach in tracking down balls. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hands are loose and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he works to use his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber well and uses his lower half well. Fastball showed in the low 60 range. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. He only worked out of the stretch at the event.

10/18/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Lexington, KY This lean, athletic OF/RHP continues to develop and show improvements in his baseball tools at both positions. In the OF, defensive grade has improved as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He shows good body control and displays clean hands as he works to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are loose and displays good extension as he shows a level swing path and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 68 mph. Fastball displays plus arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes.

He has quick hands and whips the barrel through the zone on a level path. He has pop to his pull side and hits the ball on a line. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and is aggressive to track down fly-balls. He works into position behind the ball, secures the ball with 2-hands and has a clean exchange to throw. On the bump, this righty has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from a low 3/4 arm slot. He works to a controlled balance point, maintains level shoulders and stays directional toward the plate. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
