Official Scouting Report

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) MJ is a 2021 1B. Big frame and strong physical build. Right-handed hitter sets up with a slightly open stance. Strong kid who shows ability to get on plane and stay long through the zone. Gap to gap power with an exit velo of 90mph. Primary 1B, moves well for his size with clean footwork. Confident actions and fields the ball cleanly out front with soft hands. Makes accurate throws with an arm velo of 85mph. Solid prospect with tremendous upside who continues to improve his skillsets that college coaches desire.

08/10/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Bernardino, CA MJ continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. In the OF not many balls get down that are hit his way. Range is a plus (7.28 60 time) as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Transfer exchange is smooth as he zips throws (85 mph velocity) on a line through his target. He has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively. At 3B, he shows active prep and works around the GB into an athletic fielding position. Hands are presented out in front as he funnels softly to the clean transfer to throw. At the plate, he continues to shine. He stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression (89 mph exit velocity) as he connects with power driving the ball with gap-to-gap pop. MJ has a tremendous upside and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament MJ continues to show as a top prospect at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet / hands work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. He moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap pop.

04/15/2018 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA MJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He showed at 3B and in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate is where he has improved the most through a squared setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he shows smooth clean actions. He displays proper footwork in creating proper angles in attacking and playing through balls with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. In the OF, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles. He needs to work to get behind balls and play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Michael is a coachable player who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Winter Classic. In the field, Michael has active feet and is very agile moving to field the ball. He gets into a square position to field and has a clean exchange to throw. He has a quick release and keeps his throws accurate to his target. Michael can improve defensively by presenting his hands to the ball sooner to field. At the plate, Michael sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride to the bal. He gets back into his load and comes through the zone with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact and line drives. Michael can improve as a hitter by using his lower half more in his swing. Overall, Michael is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further develop his skills.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
