07/15/2013 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Michael is a tall, lean LHP/OF that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.16 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Basler shows an open, balanced setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact with power numbers improving as he creates more extension and uses his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 72-75 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Michael has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
