03/29/2015 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Michael continues to work hard on his skills. With the bat, this LH swinger shows balanced approach with patience, waiting for his pitch. Rhythm in his hands allow for on-time separation as he connects and drives the ball up the middle of the field. Working to get more extension through contact and finish will help to increase pop off of his barrel. At 1B, Michael hustles to his right and left getting behind the GB's. He is sure handed and makes the plays consistently. Continuing to develop his footwork/agility will help to improve his skills at 1B. On the mound, this lefty has a repeatable delivery coming from a 3/4 arm slot. FB tops out in the mid 60's as he throws it for strikes. Breaking ball has 1/7 shape with early break. Working to stay on top of his CB and be more consistent will his release point will allow for sharper break. This 2017 grad is a hard worker who still has time to develop and get his game where he wants it to be.

09/28/2014 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Michael worked out at both 1B and on the mound during his workout in Pittsburgh. Defensively, Michael has good body control to the ball, playable footwork, and he moves well around the bag. He fields out front, gains momentum toward his target, and throws with a clean arm action with accuracy to his target. If Michael can lighten and quicken his feet, and work on his backhand, defense can get better. On the mound, Michael stands over the rubber well, he keeps a still head, and separates on time. He rotates well through to his target, and finishes with his chest out over his front knee. Mound effectiveness can improve if Michael can loosen his arm action, get more extension, and get on top of the baseball. Offensively, Michael has good balance, a square set-up, and he can hit to all fields. He has an activate load and keeps his hands inside the baseball well. A sooner stride, more lower 1/2, and better extension will spike hitting numbers.

03/30/2014 - National Tryout - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Michael continues to progress on the diamond. With the stick, this LH swinger displays a balanced setup with patience. He has strength in his swings and connects with the ball. At 1B, he works into a square fielding position and tracks the ball into his mitt. He makes the backhand play smoothly and shows good footwork around the bag. Only a 2017 grad - Michael still has a lot of time to work on and improve his skills.

09/22/2013 - College PREP - Pittsburgh, PA Michael is a L/L 1B who has some pop off of his barrel. At the plate, this left-handed hitter shows a tall stance and solid base. He is aggressive and jumps on the fist pitch, driving it to all fields. He uses his lower 1/2 and creates solid contact. Developing a load will help improve his timing and consistency at the dish. Defensively, Michael gets on the balls of his feet and presents his glove. His looks the ball into his mitt and can make the backhand play. Improving his footwork will benefit his play at 1B. Michael is young and has a lot of time for to develop his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
