Official Scouting Report

  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

02/21/2016 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.16. In the OF, defensive abilities are now outstanding, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows an open athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he will go the other way. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. He throws a slider that is harder with tight spin and short break. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Michael has a lot of potential and is a sure player to keep an eye on.

12/07/2014 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Michael is a talented, versatile athlete (OF/LHP) who has a strong build. With the bat, this LH swinger shows a balanced approach with rhythm to load. Swing path is short/quick through a level path as he connects and drives the ball. He has good pop to his pull side and will want pitcher's to challenge inside. In the OF, Michael works on the balls of his feet as he takes solid routes to the fly-ball. He has a clean exchange, works in-line toward his target and fires accurate throws. On the mound, this LHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, maintains level shoulders and drives downhill toward the plate. FB shows arm-side run and sink (70 mph). Breaking ball has 2/8 shape as he works it to both sides of the plate. He repeats his delivery well and throws strikes with all 3 pitches. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to increase velocity. Only a 2017 grad - Michael has skills and will only continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
