06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael showed some improvements at the Omaha National World Series. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.31 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Feet are quick in gaining ground through a clean transfer/exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. He shows a solid setup and sticks balls well in the zone and utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, hands are quick and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-75 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/22/2018 - College PREP - Grand Rapids, MI Michael is an athletic and talented 2019 2-way player. Behind the dish, Michael presents a big target and works behind the ball. He has a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quick. He leads with his glove to block and controls the ball with his chest. At the plate, Michael starts in a tall stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He attacks the inside part of the ball and stays balanced through contact. On the bump, Michael separates on time, works north to south, and has a strong front side. He sinks his fastball and has good spin on the breaking ball. Michael will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
