Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

03/10/2019 - College PREP - Manalapan, NJ Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through a level swing path, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and he presents well out front. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Slider resembles breaking ball with 11/5 shape and gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way prospect that has good feel for the game. At 3B, Michael creates momentum with his footwork and makes good throws. He needs to continue to present a low/early glove, be on time with his prep step, and field the ball in front of his body. At the plate Michael starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and stays compact to the ball. He needs to continue to see the ball deep into the contact zone and stay balanced throughout the swing. On the bump, Michael shows confidence and competes on every pitch. He has a loose arm, lands in a strong throwing position, and works over the front side. He needs to continue to gather over the rubber and separate on time. Michael will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/14/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael is a stocky and strong 2-way prospect. At 3B, Michael has a clean exchange, makes accurate throws to first, and makes good double play feeds. Continuing to work on his prep step and present a low/early glove will allow him to work from the ground up. At the plate, Michael starts in a tall stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He creates rhythm in his hands and uses his lower half. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and staying balanced through contact will allow him to keep his front side from opening up. On the bump, Michael gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and keeps his eyes on his target. Continuing to work north to south and driving his back leg toward the plate will allow him to consistently pound the bottom part of the zone. Michael will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Michael is a lean RHP/C that will graduate in 2020. On the mound, delivery is sound/repeatable through a strong balance point. Fastball shows a range of 70-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer/exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.53 - 2.63 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft and he sticks it in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down quicker. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. With 2 years to further develop, Michael has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
