11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures Texas Michael continues to get better each time we see him and had an impressive showing at this Futures event. While his tools continue to improve (6.94 in the 60 and 89mph arm strength), so does his ability to use them in game settings. He receives with strong hands and moves his feet well behind the plate - both to throw and block. At the plate, he drove a 2B in the game and shows a short, direct stroke with an ability to get some carry on balls to the gaps. Overall Michael is showing signs of a run-producing bat at a premium position - an attractive combination.

01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Michael continues to shows well on the diamond. Offensively, he displays a solid base and athletic setup. Good rhythm allows him to work back into a strong loaded position. He displays good zone awareness as he drew 3 walks at the event. Michael likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 in which he turns on it showing pull-side pop. Behind the dish, he shows good flexion and works behind the ball. Active footwork and quick actions help to work in-line toward 2B with pop times still in the low 2's. A 2016 grad - Michael should continue to find success in the game.

11/02/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Futures Series Texas Michael is a good young player with a solid mix of tools. At the plate he shows an aggressive approach with a coordinated swing and god extension. He loads his hands a bit deep and drifts into contact, but he has natural hitting ability and a solid overall feel to hit. As a catcher, Michael receives with strong, sure hands and shows some flexibility in his set-up. He is good on balls in the dirt with the right mentality and toughness to block. He has a quick arm that will be used even better as he cleans up his footwork and exchange. Only a 2016 grad, Michael should continue to refine his skills and will be attractive to many college programs.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
