07/23/2019 - College PREP - Rindge, NH Mike continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.12 with accuracy and zip (81 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, hitting abilities has improved, now showing as outstanding through a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. Pop times showed in the 2.38 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the ball quicker. He shows a solid setup and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 3 for 8. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a solid team player.

07/09/2018 - College PREP - Portland, ME Michael is a tall catcher with a solid frame. Behind the plate, Michael tracks the ball well, his feet play well, and he presents his glove well. He blocks and receives well, has a clean exchange, and he throws accuracy from a long arm action to 2nd base. Abilities behind the plate can improve if Michael can improve his set-up, quicken his feet, and add arm strength. Offensively, Michael has a closed stance, he loads well, and hits from a strong base. He makes consistent contact and hits hard to the pull side. Offensive numbers can improve if Michael can add bat speed, use more lower body, and work on barrel accuracy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
