Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

05/22/2016 - National Tryout Plus - San Antonio, TX Michael continues to show well on the diamond. This LHP toes the rubber and competes. He attacks the zone working the ball in and out. FB shows run and will give hitters trouble coming from his low 3/4 arm slot. Changeup has arm-side run and compliments his FB well - 64-65 mph. In the OF, Michael moves well on the balls of his feet tracking down fly-balls with speed. He gathers well and works through the ball, in-line toward his target. At the plate, this lead-off type hitter has quick hands and squares the ball up consistently. He drives it on a line and gets out of the box and down the line. He's a threat once on base with his speed. Michael is a talented prospect who has the skills that will make an impact.

07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Michael is an athletic player who makes things happen. He tracks down balls hit into the gaps with speed. Ball is quick/clean from glove to hand as he fires accurate throws to his target. At the plate, this LH hitter shows a well balanced approach with rhythm. He has quiet/simple actions delivering the barrel on a short/direct path. He connects and hits the ball on a line. On the bump, Michael competes and attacks the zone. He has a deceptive arm-action and throws strikes with all 3-pitches. FB shows run & sink, proving to be a tough pitch to square up. He holds runners well by varying his looks. Michael has a great attitude and brings energy to the field.

04/06/2014 - College PREP - Albuquerque, NM Michael is a skilled 2-way player (OF/LHP) who is a speedster. In the OF, he can track down balls hit into the gaps with ease and quick footwork (6.55 60 yard dash). He plays through the ball well and has a clean exchange to throw. At the plate, this RHH shows an athletic setup with good balance. Barrel delivery is quick to and through the zone as he utilizes his lower 1/2 well. Getting back into a loaded position early will help to improve timing and increase contact consistency. On the bump, Michael has an effective 3-pitch mix coming from a low 3/4 arm slot. FB tops out at 79 and shows some run. Changeup is best pitch as he throws it with FB arm-speed and keeps the ball down in the zone. Only a 2017 grad - Michael has skills and will only continue to develop his game over the next few years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
