Official Scouting Report

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way prospect that was focused on getter better all week. At SS, Michael is on time with his prep step, he has easy actions to the ball, and works from the ground up. He needs to continue to build arm strength and improve his first step to the ball. At the plate, Michael starts in a squared stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and controls his barrel. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball, create backside drive with his lower half, and stay in his legs. On the bump this week Michael had two appearance with 4 total innings that included 5 strikeouts. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and is not afraid to pitch inside. He needs to continue to work off the fastball and mix in his changeup down in the zone. Michael is a hard worker and we hope to see his progress in the future.

12/16/2018 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Michael is an athletic RHP/SS prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. On the mound, Michael starts with a good rhythm and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate. Michael shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 81mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 69-71mph with 9-3 break. Cutter sits from 73-75mph with good movement. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Michael improve as a pitcher. In the field, Michael shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good carry across the diamond. Michael can improve defensively by staying low when moving to throw. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to solid contact and line drives. Letting the ball travel on outside pitches can help Michael improve as a hitter. Overall, Michael is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Michael is a solid, athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying sure hands as he makes the plays. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and play through balls more. At the plate, he shows an open setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-76 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Michael has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
