Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

07/07/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Mike continues to show as a hard working player in the OF and on the mound. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he covers a lot of ground. Reads off the bat are solid as he gets good jumps and plays aggressively through ground balls as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Hands are quick as he works on time and he keeps hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively and keeps both hands on the bat through the point of contact. On the mound, fastball was in the mid 70 range. Changeup is best off speed pitch, showing a feel for with slight arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to throw more strikes.

05/17/2015 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Esposito continues to shine. With the bat, he works back into a strong loaded position and works to utilize his lower 1/2 throughout the swing. He connects with some pop and gets backspin on the ball. In the OF, Michael puts his athleticism on display as he tracks down fly-balls with speed. He gathers smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw. On the bump, this righty repeats well and throws strikes consistently. He engages his lower 1/2 and drives downhill off of the rubber with good glove-side lead. Curveball shows to be best off-speed with 11/5 shape and sharp action. Michael is a hard worker who has molded himself into a solid prospect.

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Michael has worked hard and come a long way from when we first saw him back in 2011. He shows a solid all-around skill set with the versatility to play OF and pitch. In the OF, he uses his athleticism to get behind fly balls and works through the ball. He plays through well and gains ground towards his target. At the plate, Michael shows a solid athletic stance and really uses his lower half to get through the baseball. He has good zone awareness and works the counts well. On the mound, this RHP has a two pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. His curveball had late 11/5 break on it. He uses his deceptive arm action to keep hitters off balance with both his sinking fastball and curveball. He fills up the zone and throws strikes consistently. Michael has a solid all-around skill-set and should find success on the diamond.

08/14/2014 - National Tryout - Trenton, NJ Michael improved his pop times behind the plate as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.32. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools. In the OF, he shows an aggressive approach and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. At the plate, he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a solid line drive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off bat when centered.

04/27/2014 - National Tryout - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, especially at the plate where he has improved the most. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered as he displays raw power. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to get his stride foot down sooner to work on time. Defensively, he projects best in the OF, showing clean / smooth actions. He plays with a ton of energy and takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Behind the plate, pop times where in the 2.40 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as the builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level.

12/15/2013 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Esposito 2-way guy (OF/C) who works hard at his game. In the OF, he has good footwork on his approach to the ball and fields the ball cleanly. He has a smooth transfer and makes accurate throws. Behind the dish (where he showed for the first time), he sits in well and shows good flexion. Exchange is clean with pop times as low as 2.37. Times will lower with increased arm strength and if he can stay low to throw. As a hitter, this righty delivers the barrel on a level path and likes the pitch on the inner 1/2. He shows some pull-side pop yet has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Michael is only a sophomore who has time and has the willingness to improve.

01/18/2013 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Michael continues to show as an OF/RHP but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. Feet are active athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, displaying sure hands. He needs to work to get behind balls more to play through and improve foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to lengthen arm action and build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Michael shows a solid setup and loads well. He tracks the ball well, displaying smooth / loose hands that work through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 61-62 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and a team guy.

Defensively, Michael has soft / sure hands, quick / fluid feet, and he fields in an athletic position. He has a quick / clean exchange and throws with a long, accurate arm to his target. On the mound, Michael has a loose arm action, level shoulders, and good direction toward home. At the plate, Michael has a tall / athletic set-up, a short stride, and he can work the ball gap-to-gap. He has some pop in his bat and he uses some lower 1/2.

12/27/2011 - Vero Beach Christmas Camp and Tournament Michael is a OF/RHP who improved in a few areas of his game during his time at Vero Beach. Defensively, he fields with two hands and has playable range. His defensive abilities will improve if he can learn to take better routes/angles to the ball. On the mound, he delivers 3 different pitches from a high 3/4 arm slot. His FB ranges from 57 - 61 mph. Mound effectiveness will improve if he can drive off with his lower 1/2 and get better glove side lead. Offensively, he remains aggressive and wants to hit. He makes consistent contact and has average bat speed. Michael has a lot of energy and is a hustler who will continue to improve with time and hard work.

07/22/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Trenton, NJ Michael is a tall, thin, athletic OF with a good build. Defensively, Michael is aggressive to the ball, he has active feet, and playable hands. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
