Official Scouting Report

05/20/2018 - College PREP - Nyack (NYC), NY Michael is a quick 2B graduating in 2019. In the field, Michael shows fluid feet that give him agile range. He attacks the baseball by creating angles and shows good backhand range as well. He shows rhythm getting into an athletic fielding position, presenting soft hands and making quick, clean exchanges into a quick arm action (3/4 arm slot). Michael makes consistently accurate throws with a quick release, throwing the ball on a line to his targets. He can improve defensively by working through the baseball as he fields and makes his transfers. At the plate, Michael shows a simple line drive, gap-to-gap type approach. He gets into a crouched setup with a square stride and a good back side load. Rhythm is smooth and he keeps a firm front half in his swing. Michael is short to the ball with a flat, direct swing path and makes consistent contact. Michael can improve offensively by keeping his balance center and staying in his legs. With another year of development, Michael can play at the next level.

12/20/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Michael is a lean, athletic 2B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has a good load with rhythm and makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. In the MIF, he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active/aggressive as he takes good first steps in attacking the baseball but needs to play through with his body. Glove action is soft/clean but needs to present more out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry to his target. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 2 years to further develop, Michael has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
