Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

07/22/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (MS) Michael is a coachable OF/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, Michael shows efficient footwork and is agile covering ground. He fields with sure hands and has a clean exchange. He gains ground well on his throws and works to keep them accurate to his target. Getting into a lower fielding position can help Michael field ground balls more efficiently. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He works to barrel up the baseball and produces solid line drives. Michael can improve his timing at the plate by getting his stride foot down sooner. On the mound, Michael gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through his release, finishing with his chest over his front knee. Michael operates with a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with good movement. Breaking ball sits at 65mph with 10-4 break. Striding inline toward the plate can help Michael improve his pitch command. With four more years to develop, Michael has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

10/18/2020 - All-In Membership - Charlotte, NC Michael is a young (2025 grad), R/R 2-way player as an OF/RHP. Defensively in the OF, he has active prep and a quick first step to track down fly-balls. He works behind and through the ball with a quick transfer to throw. Offensively, this righty maintains a balanced/athletic setup with active hands to load. Barrel delivery is quick as he connects and hits line-drives back up the middle of the field. Working to get loaded sooner will help to get more into the swing producing more pop. On the mound, this RHP throws a FB, CB & SL from a 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and extends through on his finish. FB ranges from 62-64 mph while showing slight run. Slider has 10/4 shape and compliments his FB well. Driving off of the rubber more with his lower 1/2 while getting on a long toss program will both help to increase velocity on his FB. Only a 2025 grad - Hoyt has a solid-skill set with still a ton of time to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
