12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Michael played both SS and RHP in Pirate City, and currently projects better at SS. He has good athleticism, play skills and makes the plays. Michael has good hands, feet, and an accurate arm with carry. He has good range but can further improve by fielding the baseball further in front of his body, in a lower position. On the mound, Michael throws strikes and stays level. He gets good extension and follow through but will need more velocity to be effective at the next level. Offensively, Michael has good balance and bat speed. He has a good eye, quick hands, and he attacks the baseball. Michael gets through the baseball well and can work the ball into the gaps. With a stronger back side, and a more compact swing, Michael can further improve his offensive numbers.

08/11/2009 - College PREP - Bear (Wilmington), DE Michael is a thin, wirey SS with above avg foot speed, as indicated by his 7.06 60. He shows good quickness and lateral movement in his MIF play. He needs to be more aggressive with his hands and feet in his approach to and then through the baseball. He shows soft hands and fluid and athletic actions. At the plate he sits in well and uses all fields with a short path to the baseball. Julian's power numbers will increase as he learns to utilize his lower ½ more efficiently.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
