Official Scouting Report

12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Michael worked out both in the INF and on the mound during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, Michael has athletic actions, soft hands, and active feet. He has a clean exchange, and delivers the ball with accuracy to his target while showing good range. He can work on using his legs more on his throws and being a little more fluid with his footwork. On the mound, Michael has a repeatable delivery, he hides the ball well, and he throws strikes. He can work on finishing his pitches better and more inline towards his target. At the plate, Michael showed an improvement since his initial workout with us. He has an aggressive swing, good barrel accuracy, and he gets the barrel through the zone well. He needs to be careful that his hands do not get ahead of his lower half. Overall he has an awesome make up and is a good competitor. He had one of the best at bats at the entire event, resulting in an opposite field hit to drive in a run after facing 12 pitches. He is very coachable and will make a great addition to a college program.

11/18/2012 - College PREP - Middletown (Hartford), CT Michael is a 2-way player as a SS/RHP. Defensively, he displays active footwork, plus range and an athletic fielding position. He is sure handed and makes accurate throws through a quick/clean exchange. Fielding further out in front of his body will smoothen up his hands. On the mound, he delivers from an over the top arm slot and loose arm action. He keeps his eyes on the target, has good rhythm and works in-line toward the plate. FB ranges from 74-77 mph and is thrown for strikes. CB is best off-speed pitch, showing tight 11/5 shape. Offensively, Michael shows a square setup, solid load and short stride. He gets his lower 1/2 through and is a contact type hitter. Extension through contact will help to improve power numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
