09/20/2015 - College PREP - Georgetown, TX Michael continues to show well on the diamond. At SS, he has active footwork and moves fluidly on the balls of his feet. He is sure handed, can pick it, and has a clean/quick exchange to throw (arm velocity = 84 mph). Offensively, this RHH has a balanced setup with fluid rhythm to load. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel on a short/direct path connecting and driving the ball with pop. He gets out of the box and down the line with speed - putting pressure on the defense. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a repeatable delivery. FB has run as he works it in and out. Breaking ball has 'spinner' action and will improve effectiveness as he works to stay on top and finish the pitch. Changeup has good sink and will get a lot of GB outs. Riggs is a versatile athlete who makes things happen in a variety of ways on the diamond.

07/29/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Michael is a thick, solid SS/RHP that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond at both positions. Foot speed is tremendous as indicated by his 6.78 60 time. At SS, defensive abilities are well above average, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to squares balls up and fields out front. He moves well laterally as he covers a lot of ground, displaying range in the MIF. He attacks ground balls, playing through with his body. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he presents hands more out front and utilizes two hands through the fielding process. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for and needs to throw more. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to grow as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays hard and is very coachable. Michael has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the college coaches as he continues to improve, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
