01/12/2024 - 2024 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament Michael continues to shine with his baseball abilities at the All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.00 range with accuracy on his throws as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Feet are active, working in line to his target as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Glove action is soft / sure and he sticks balls well in zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing as he transfers weight into a firm front side.

09/20/2023 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic (2025) Michael continues to shine with his baseball abilities at the Arizona JR Fall Classic. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.07 range with accuracy / carry on his throws. He presents a soft mitt and sticks balls well in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering ball well out front. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great leader behind the dish.

06/27/2023 - National Showcase - Clarksburg, WV Michael is a strong catcher in the 2025 class. Behind the plate, he has a quiet set up and sits under the baseball. Keeps the baseball behind his eyes well and can maintain the strike zone with advanced pocket feel. Is quick to block and replaces his feet well with his knees. Demonstrates the ability to control the run game with a 1.92 pop and is consistently on the bag. At the plate, his extension through the baseball stands out. His path is short and attacks the inside part of the ball for line drive production to all fields. Shows smooth timing and high barrel awareness. Balance is outstanding and sees the ball well. Overall, Michael is an excellent backstop and can be a middle of the order type hitter.

10/05/2022 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic (2025) Michael is an athletic C in the 2025 class. Scouts feel he is a complete team player. Is a quarterback on the field with his vocal skills and backs up his leadership with strong work ethic and energy. Behind the plate, his stance is low and comfortable. Has great glove presentation and soft hands. Releases from a high ¾ slot and his throws are on the bag. Working to improve his feet will allow them to be in sync with his arm and quicken his release. At the plate, He begins with a tall and open stance. He uses a short and on-time stride and gets into his backside well. Timing is fluid and generates a short barrel path to the inside portion of the baseball. Likes to see the baseball deep and work backside. Working to stay in his legs and engage his backside will generate additional power in his swing. Overall, Michael is a baseball player who can also play in the OF. Scouts love his make-up and ability and are excited to see how he progressing in the game.

05/22/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Charleston, WV Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.11 with accuracy / on his throws and he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing through an aggressive hip turn.

02/19/2022 - Mid-Atlantic Pitching/Catching Training (HS) - Columbia, MD Michael Romano, C 2025, Bridgeport HS (Bridgeport, WV) Hitting - Has great rhythm and understands how to stay behind the ball to swing at hittable pitches only. Middle approach and good timing allow for line drives gap to gap. Can get a little quad dominant and fall over the plate, cutting himself off from the inside of the hitting zone but a focus on maintaining posture will create a fix in this area. Short and quick to the ball enables Michael to hit in all situations. Defense - Keeps getting better and better behind the plate each time we see him. A constant learner who thrives while working hard to improve, has made himself into a solid backstop. Has excellent stances, stays quiet to let his hands stay soft and up through the ball. Will earn strikes for his pitchers and will keep the ball in front of him at all times. Sees dirt balls on time and is ready to block and control rebounds with great technique and posture. Continuing to improve arm strength will be key in developing into a college level talent.

01/14/2022 - 2022 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Michael is a C/OF prospect who showcased his skills during the Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament. Behind the dish, Michael shows efficient footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in a low stance and receives with a firm glove. His exchange is quick and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate/on-line to the 2B bag. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance with center balance. He works through a direct swing and sprays line drives to all fields. Overall, Michael is a solid prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

10/13/2021 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Michael is a 2025 C prospect who showcased his skills at the Arizona Freshman Fall Classic. At C, he showed an easy sit, with athletic actions, and a firm wrist. Quick/athletic actions as he gains ground to second base. Works thumb under baseball keeping balls in the strike zone. He creates momentum to his target, with a clean transfer, and a high 3/4 release point and arm velocity as high as 70mph and a best pop time of 2.3 seconds. Throws were accurate and on the bag. He creates good blocking angles and keeps balls in front of him. A right-handed hitter, he starts with an athletic and open stance with a comfortable hand set. A small hand load, with center balance at contact, and ability to get on-plane early. He hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 78mph. He reached base 6 times with a double, a single, 3 base on balls, and reached on an error during the games. With 4 years of continued growth and development, we see Michael making huge strides on the baseball field.

In the OF, Michael shows active footwork and covers ground well. He makes the routine plays and has a clean exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly and makes accurate throws to his target. Michael can make more plays by beating fly balls to their spot. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He shows fluid rhythm and works through a direct swing, producing loud line drives. Engaging his lower half more can help Michael generate more pop off the barrel. Overall, Michael is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

03/13/2021 - Spring Pro Training Experience - MD (MS) Michael is a coachable C/OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Spring Pro Training Experience. Behind the dish, Michael sits in an athletic stance and receives with a quiet glove. His exchange is quick and he gains ground well on his throws, keeping them strong/accurate through the 2B bag. He moves to block on time and centers dirt balls in the middle of his body. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a relaxed stance and takes a short stride. He drives through well with his lower half and works through a short swing, producing strong contact. Overall, Michael is a talented prospect who has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

Academic All-American Tournament (MS) Michael is a C/OF prospect in the class of 2025. At the plate, he showed good feel for his swing throughout the weekend. Simple set up and load helped him get into consistent launch positions. He did a good job of staying on time and tracking the ball deep into his barrel. Worked mainly pull side in his round of BP. In the field, he showed good overall actions at both positions. Behind the plate, he did a good of presenting low targets as well as sitting deep in his squat. Could benefit from a long toss program. In the outfield, he showed good feet and range to both sides of him. Did a good job creating momentum to throw. Michael is an exciting young prospect that we hope to see again in the future.

10/18/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Bowie, MD Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.46 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He will benefit by working to get behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach.

09/04/2020 - MS All-Region Tournament Michael Romano is a 2025 C/OF that showed consistent playing skill on both sides of the baseball in Tucson with Baseball Factory. Behind the dish, he sat square and low, and received with a firm glove. He was able to stick pitches well and tracked into the mitt with his eyes behind the glove. His athleticism and flex were above average and he was quick to his feet to throw. At the plate, he was square and athletic in his setup and had a square stride to get ready to hit. His rhythm & timing were smooth and his lower half worked thru off a firm front side. In his AB's he collected a single, a double, and 3 walks, while putting the ball in play in his other at bat. In all - Michael is an intriguing mix of athleticism and skill that have proven to be a dangerous combo that excels at the next level.

12/27/2019 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic (Ages 12-14) Michael is a young C/OF that attended Dodgertown. Behind the plate, Michael works hard in his primary as he works to create good angles and receive the ball. As he works to throw to second, he gains ground towards second making a clean 2-hand exchange and gets rid of the ball. Blocking, Michael tucks his chin and works hard to keep the ball in front. At the plate, Michael sets up with a square stance and loose hands as he starts his swing firing his lower half through. He gets the bat on plane making consistent contact showing a solid line drive approach. Getting stronger and working on agility will make Michael a better athlete. Michael has several years to develop, and we look forward to seeing his progress.

06/19/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Charleston, WV Michael is a young, thin, 2-way player who plays OF and catcher. In the OF, Michael has fluid footwork, a presentable glove, and he fields in a low position. He moves well to the ball, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a quick arm action with accuracy to his target. Behind the plate, Michael has fluid feet, a solid base, and he tracks the ball well. He keeps the ball in front when blocking, his exchange is clean, and he throws with consistency to his target. At the plate, Michael has an athletic stance, good balance, and a short swing path. He swings aggressively and works the ball gap to gap. Overall skills can continue to improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
