Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.75 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact and stays inside the ball through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 61-63 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Good frame, with broad shoulders, athletic build with strength present and room to add more strength. Behind the dish, good sit who showed good agility and quiet actions. Gains ground with good direction towards second base. Creates some blocking angles and displayed a soft chest as he deadens balls. Flat bat path that made square contact and hit balls into both parts of the field. 12/14/2019 - Florida Regional Offensive Skills and Pitching/Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Michael is an athletic and talented 2025 catching prospect that worked hard all weekend. Behind the dish, Michael tracks the ball into his glove and has soft hands on balls in the strike zone. When receiving, he needs to continue to presents a low target, work behind the ball, and be in a balanced position. When blocking, he needs to anticipate the ball in the dirt, lead with his glove, and try to control the ball with his chest. When throwing, he needs to start in an athletic secondary, exchange the ball in front of his chest, and take less steps when throwing to 2B. At the plate, Michael starts in an open stance, he has comfortable hands, and looks to hit the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to get his front foot down on time, rotate his back hip into the ball, and stay back at contact. Michael will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
