Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/OFPosition Projection

07/15/2013 - National Tryout - Plano (DFW), TX Michael worked out at SS and in the OF at his last workout in Plano, TX. At SS, Michael showed active footwork, firm hands, and he squares up well to the ball. He works the double play nicely, and has average strength to his target. In the OF, Michael has an aggressive approach, sure hands, and his feet are active. He plays on the balls of his feet and throws with average strength to his target. Offensively, Michael has an athletic set-up, good balance, and pop to the pull side. He has fast bat speed, a line drive swing, and he gets his lower 1/2 through.

04/14/2013 - National Tryout - Plano (DFW), TX Michael worked out behind the plate during his last workout in Plano, TX. Defensively, Michael showed fluid footwork, firm hands, and he sits in quietly. He looks the ball in, his exchange is quick, and he delivers the ball with a loose arm action with consistency to his target. Offensively, Michael has a tall / open stance, a short stride, and he stays inside the ball well.

12/27/2012 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Vero Beach Mike is a right handed 1st baseman/Utility player who has the ability to play all positions. In the field Mike displays good glove skills with soft, sure hands. He has a long loose arm action from a high 3/4 arm slot. Mike could improve his forehand and backhand fielding position, his footwork around the bag at first base and at the other positions on the field, as well as being more aggressive. At the plate Mike has a square, athletic set-up with a good load and short stride. He takes aggressive swings at the ball and isn't cheated at the plate. Mike does have a lot of movement in his stride and load and needs to work on getting his front foot down on time. If he were to quiet the movement in his swing he would have better barrel accuracy and be able to keep his head down at contact, which would lead to more consistency in his hitting. With continued work on his mechanics, Mike's versatility gives him a lot of potential at the next level.

07/16/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Carrollton (DFW), TX Mike is a thin, athletic 1st baseman with average size. Defensively, Mike has sure / firm hands, active feet, and he fields in a square position. He has good body control, solid bag awareness, and a short arm action to his target. Offensively, Mike has a tall / open stance, an aggressive swing, and he works the middle of the field. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Field further out in front
2. Long toss
3. Loosen arm
Offense
1. Rhythm / Timing
2. Balance
3. Shorten and level off swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
