09/19/2015 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Mike is a solid, athletic 1B that will graduate in 2016 with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with tremendous power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. He has strength in his swing with plus barrel accuracy. Hands work inside the baseball, utilizing all fields and displaying gap to gap pop. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around bag, showing clean hands. He moves well laterally and presents well out front and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Mike has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

06/08/2014 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Toth continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive grades at 1B are where he has improved the most, displaying clean / smooth actions. He shows proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Range will improve as he increases foot quickness. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced / squared setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and have strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields and improves barrel accuracy.

06/10/2013 - College PREP - Troy, MI Michael is a thick, solid 1st baseman with broad shoulders. Defensively, Michael has firm hands, playable feet, and good pre-pitch actions. He moves well around the bag, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy from a long arm action to his target. A softer glove, playing lower, and and fielding more out front will help defense improve. At the plate, Michael has a crouched setup, good balance, and fast bat speed. He makes square contact, he stays behind the ball, and he creates solid backspin. Improved timing and more lower body load can improve hitting.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
