12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Wood is a two-way LHP/OF that will graduate in 2018. On the mound, Michael features a tailing fastball, a 1-7 breaking curve ball, and a tailing change up with signs of command and fastball arm speed. Wood pitches with quality tempo and flashes a solid balanced position and throws slightly across body which creates some deception while still showing the ability to extend through to the target with a square landing of proper length. Wood showed an idea of how to pitch and will benefit from adding arm strength through a development program. In the OF, Wood takes aggressive, proper routes to the baseball and keeps momentum working through a high catch directionally to the target. Gaining ground with the crow hop and being more efficient with the feet will improve fluidity for Michael. At the plate, Wood has a quality stance and works the hands into a solid launch position and gets the hips through with the swing. Keeping the attack angle inside the baseball will shorten the stroke to contact and allow for greater extension through the hitting zone. With a hustling, hard-working mentality the future is bright for Wood on the diamond.

08/23/2015 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Michael Wood is a 5'8/155 lbs L/L LHP/OF that will graduate in 2018. In the OF, he worked with good actions and sure hands to make plays. His feet worked efficiently and he had a good arm stroke that fit his position. Raising his arm slot to add carry and maintaining his momentum to throw will add strength to his defense. Offensively, he worked the middle of the field with his approach and kept his eyes on contact. He generated good bat speed with fluidity through the swing and flashed sneaky pop when centered. On the mound, he threw his FB with CUT from 72-75, spun a 1/7 CB from 67-70 with flashes of sharp break, and showed a CUT CH from 66-69. He gathered over the rubber to balance and initiate his delivery and repeated his actions with a clean arm stroke and lower half direction. In all - Michael is a very intriguing follow that we look forward to tracking the next three years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
