10/18/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Birmingham, AL Michael continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.64 runner. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to get down sooner. Pop times showed in 2.32 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He will benefit by working to get behind balls more and play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Mikael is an athletic and thin 2022 catching prospect that was eager to learn all week. Behind the dish, Mikael starts in a quiet primary stance and has an athletic secondary stance. When receiving, Mikael presents an early target, he works behind the ball, and has soft but strong hands. When throwing, Mikael gains ground, he has a clean exchange, and creates momentum in his lower half. Following a long toss program this off season will improve his arm strength as well. When blocking, Mikael anticipates the ball in the dirt, he leads with his glove, and controls the ball with his chest. At the plate, Mikael has a relaxed stance, he loads his hands back, and consistently finds the barrel. He gets his front foot down on time but improving his backside drive with his lower half will increase whip in the barrel, and help get full extension through the ball. At the plate Mikael hunts the fastball and doesn’t get cheated at the plate. Mikael plays the game hard and we hope to see his progress in the future.

07/17/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Mikael showed in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.06. In the OF, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He utilizes his quick feet well in working to get behind balls and plays through well with his body. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. He shows good game awareness and does a nice job of backing up bases. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He has some strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

06/10/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Mikael is a young, athletic catcher with a strong lower body. Behind the plate, Mikael has efficient footwork, okay range, and he looks the ball into his glove. He tries to keep the ball in front when blocking, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy and pop times as low as 2.45 to 2nd base. Offensively, Mikael has a square set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He has a short swing path, keeps a still head, and hits hard to the pull side. Mikael can improve overall skills with work on the following.

Catchiing
1. Hands
2. Exchange
3. Release
Offense
1. Lower body

3. Barrel accuracy

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
