Official Scouting Report

  • CPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Mike is a very talented catching prospect who shined during his time in Arizona. Behind the plate, he sits in low with a solid base and presents a low target. Quick footwork allow him to move efficiently laterally as he bodies up pitches in the dirt and centers the ball off of his chest. He gains ground toward 2B as he is a catch and throw guy getting rid of the ball quickly. Throws are strong and accurate right on the 2B bag. As a hitter - Mike stands in well with centered balance. He takes an aggressive hack, barreling the ball up with power (exit velocity = 89 mph) and spraying it to the gaps. He will be a run producer who will fit nicely in a clean-up type role. Mike has a ton of upside and will play at a very high level.

07/26/2015 - College PREP - Gillette, WY Mike is an athletic backstop who has a ton of skills on the diamond. A strong arm (88 mph), speed (6.73 60 yard dash) - this athlete can make things happen. Behind the plate, he sits in well with athletic actions and quick footwork. He is quick around pitches in the dirt and centers them off of his chest. Transfer/exchange is quick as he gains ground towards 2B putting throws on the money (impressive pop times of 1.80). Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm. At the plate, Berg has a balanced approach with rhythm to load. He whips the barrel through the zone with speed, connects with pop and sprays the ball to the gaps. Mike (2017 grad) has the makings of a special type player who is one to keep an eye on over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
