05/12/2019 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Mike is an athletic C/2B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Mike shows active footwork and centers the ball when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with a firm glove. He gains momentum well on his throws, working to keep them accurate to the 2B bag. Making a quicker exchange can help Mike improve as a C. At 2B, Mike shows efficient footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Mike can improve as a 2B by long tossing to build up his arm strength. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid contact to his pull side. Getting more extension through the ball can help Mike improve as a hitter. With two more years to develop, Mike has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Mike continues to show a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed in the 2.35 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft and he sticks in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows an open, crouched setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and has strength in his swing, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 1 for 3. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

10/07/2018 - College PREP - Parker (Denver), CO Mike is a thin and talented 2021 utility prospect. Behind the dish, Mike presents a low target and works behind the ball when receiving. He leads with his glove and gets his lower half into a solid position when blocking. He has a clean exchange and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing to 2B. At 2B, Mike is on time with his prep step, he anticipates the ball off the bat, and has a clean exchange. He has a quick first step to the ball and has range on both sides of the glove. At the plate, Mike starts in an open stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and stays balanced through contact. He hits off a firm front side and drives the ball to all fields. Mike will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
