Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

06/14/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Mike showed outstanding arm strength both in the OF and on the mound during his time in Omaha. He was clocked at 90 MPH on the gun and showed solid stuff on the hill. Mike has a free arm action, he separates on-time, and he lands in a square position. He has max energy to his target, a solid pick-off move, and he throws strikes with all of his pitches. In the OF, Mike has a quick 1st step, soft hands, and he fields out front. He makes plays, plays through the ball, and throws with a fluid / strong arm to his target. Offensively, Mike has good hands, an activated load, and good balance. He has nice bat speed, he swings in good rhythm, and he squares the ball up well. Mike is a talented player with a nice upside.

11/03/2013 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Michael is a 2-way player (RHP/OF) who has a solid lower 1/2. On the bump, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a repeatable delivery. FB cracks the mitt at 82 mph and shows some arm-side run. SL has 10/4 shape while CH shows arm-side run and is best off-speed. He maintains good rhythm/tempo and works at his pace. Finishing out over his front side will help to improve effectiveness on the bump. In the OF, Matter hustles and gets into position behind the fly-ball. He has a clean exchange and fires accurate throws with carry into his target. Offensively, Michael tracks the ball into the zone and waits for his pitch. He makes consistent contact and uses his lower 1/2 well, driving the ball on a line. Michael is only a sophomore and has a bright future on the mound.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
