02/17/2012 - Myrtle Beach College Kickoff
Mike showed some improvements in his game during his time in Myrtle Beach. On the hill, Mike shows an athletic delivery, and loose / simple actions. He has a good arm action, he throws his FB for strikes, and he gets good extension on his pitches. At 1B, Mike has solid / athletic actions, he moves well around the bag, and he can pick the ball out of the dirt. He looks the ball into his glove, and throws with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Mike has a good idea, a loose swing, and his lower 1/2 works well. He makes consistent contact and he flashes some pop in his bat.
01/07/2012 - College PREP - Loch Sheldrake, NY
Mike is a tall and lanky pitcher that will graduate in 2012. He throws from a 3/4 arm slot with a quick front arm action, good balance and tempo. He throws his fastball in the 78-79 mph range with slight arm side run. He throws a sharp curveball with 10/5 shape that will get better by consistently staying on top of the pitch. He also throws a change-up with good arm speed and cut type action but needs to command this pitch better. He keeps his shoulders level throughout the delivery and lands in-line with his lead foot. He needs to stay closed with his front side, finish his pitches with a flat back and continue to work on command of his off-speed pitches. A solid long toss program and continued arm maintenance will also help Mike continue to improve on the mound.
