06/17/2010 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 1 Mikeal showed similar skills in his baseball abilities in Omaha as he as done in previous workouts. Behind the plate, Mikeal has an athletic frame, a decent transfer, and he gets on top of his throws. He currently blocks the receives the ball average, but still has time to improve. If Mikeal can avoid standing up when throwing, and improve his blocking, defensive numbers can further improve. In the OF, Mikeal makes plays on balls hit his way, and he tracks the ball well. He fields the ball on the right side of his body, and throws accurately to his target. Abilities can improve if Mikeal can avoid drifting to the ball. Offensively, Mikeal ans a good stance and set-up. He makes consistent contact, and has a short path, down to the ball. If Mikeal can transfer his weight better, and work the ball to all fields, hitting grades could be on the rise.

01/15/2010 - Vero Beach Spring Training & Competition - 2010 Coder showed a good combination of physical skill and feel for the game behind the plate. More importantly as a young player, he showed the desire to get better along with the ability to make adjustments. Has room to improve his blocking, both in terms of reaction to balls down and in his ability to get his body in position. Release times were around 2.5-2.6, similar to what we saw from him last time. He has room to develop his footwork and exchange to throw. At the plate, he showed good balance and a line drive stroke with barrel accuracy. At times, his double tap type stride caused him some trouble - may consider a more simple trigger to allow him to stay back and in stronger positions more consistently. Has natural ability to work with, given work on his skills and time to develop his body he has a bright future. Ran 8.20 in the 60-yard dash.

07/21/2009 - Cape Cod Training 2009 - Week 3 Mikeal is a young, 2013 graduate that shows as a two-way player with a small, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is below average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He utilizes his feet well through the throwing process displaying solid foot work to throw. Pop times were in the 2.50-2.56 and will drop as more arm strength is developed. Arm strength is average and he will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength with carry on throws. At the plate, Coder has average abilities with near average power through a balanced approach. He shows solid hands flashing bat speed through a level swing path, showing a feel for the barrel. Power numbers will increase as more overall body strength is developed. Mikeal is a very young player who has a chance to be solid as he continues to improve.

11/07/2008 - West Coast Select Training Improved 60-yard dash from 9.08 to 8.30. Best release time down from 2.72 to 2.57.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
