06/16/2022 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (HS) Mikel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 74 mph. Fastball shows good sinking action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

04/03/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Jacinto, CA Mikel is a Strong (6’1/205) LHP/1B in the 2022 class. In the field, he is a strong target and has a wingspan that makes infielders look better. Moves well around the bag and can pick low feeds in the dirt with athletic actions. Makes accurate feeds on his turns and has the arm strength (81 velo) to make tough throws. On the mound, operates with a 3-pitch mix from a high ¾ slot. He has solid extension and releases out in front. His FB topped at 71 and was commanded well. His CB sat 56-8 with 1/7 shape and is a solid get me over type pitch. His CH sat 59-62 and has downward tilt. Playing catch with his grips will create a consistent release point. At the plate, he has a middle to pull side approach. He generates hard contact (88 exit velo) with a direct barrel angle. Hits with a firm front side and his timing is smooth. Scouts were impressed with his play and were equally impressed with his make-up. They described him as a great kid who works very hard. They feel he has the intangibles to make a solid addition to a college roster both as a player and as a person.

11/14/2021 - All-In Membership - San Marcos (San Diego), CA Mikel is a tall LHP/1B who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. Lower half works well through the swing and shows a feel for the barrel. At 1B, he shows smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate with online carry (80 mph velocity) to his target. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mikel has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
