12/27/2012 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament Mitch is a young 2B/RHP that will graduate in 2015. Currently, he projects best at 2B for the next level. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / clean / sure as he makes the plays. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he improves foot quickness. Throws are accurate, flashing carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Hilbrands shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a short / direct / level swing path. He shows a solid line drive approach with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more and adds overall body strength. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 2 years to further develop, Mitch has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
