12/27/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Mitchell continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate he improved his power abilities, now showing outstanding potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with power showing best to the pull side. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean / transfer exchange. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.13. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking in the zone. He moves well laterally through the blocking process and creates good angles. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, works hard, and is a great team player.

10/16/2016 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Mitchell continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.38. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting / power potential. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is outstanding with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Mitchell will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to progress his game.

04/10/2016 - College PREP - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Mitchell is a hard worker who continues to develop. Behind the dish, he sits in well with flexion and receives with a soft mitt. He uses he body well to block, centering pitches in the dirt off of his chest. He gains ground and works in-line toward his target at 2B - making accurate throws. Staying low to throw and strengthening his arm (long toss) will help pop times to continue to drop. Offensively, this righty has a balanced setup with patience. He hits the ball where it's pitched and uses the whole field (exit velocity = 83 mph). Working to get his front foot timing down will help to improve hard contact consistency. Lavoie has upside with still time to progress.

03/29/2015 - National Tryout - Ashburn (DC), VA Mitchell showed vast improvements to his game in his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. Behind the plate, he worked his glove in front on-time to secure the ball, and was sure with the glove to receive. He did a nice job of exchanging and throwing with a clean arm stroke, and flashed pops in the 2.4 range. Working his body to gain momentum to throw and leveling his shoulders will help to keep throws on-line with more velo. Offensively, he worked a contact approach and generated decent bat speed to hit. He had a wide stance with his strong lower half and has potential as he begins to work his body to a square stance - allowing him to stay in the strike zone with the barrel longer. Overall - Mitchell is a young freshman that has sound fundamentals to build off of for the next level.

07/25/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Mitch is a primary catcher that is very vocal and shows good leadership skills. Behind the dish he receives with firm hands, works hard to control the running game, and showed that he works well with the pitching staff. He is a vocal leader and is always positive towards his teammates. At the plate he has a closed stance, good load, and uses his lower half well. He is a good contact hitter that has good barrel accuracy. Should continue to improve with more reps behind the plate and more live at bats.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
