Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OFPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Mueller is a hardworking player with a positive attitude and plus makeup and continues to show in the OF where he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are quick / athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and maintains solid body control. He reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground, displaying range. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to target. Throws are accurate, but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program and work on getting rid of the baseball more quickly. At the plate, he shows a squared, athletic stance with balance. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he learns to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power grades will improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

06/16/2013 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Mitchell is a solid, tall, OF who will graduate in 2014. In the OF, Mitchell reads the ball off the bat well, his hands are soft, and his feet are active. He plays through well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with carry to his target. Not drifting to the ball can help defense improve. Offensively, Mitchell has an open set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He swings in good rhythm and gets his lower 1/2 through. Hitting can improve with a shorter, more level swing and a better load.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
