Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2019 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Mitchell is a tall and broad 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2022. Mitchell showed well out in Arizona on both sides of the ball with an 85 mph raw velo and a 93 mph exit velo. At the hot corner, Mitchell shows athletic movements and effective footwork to the ball. He fields the ball on time with a confident glove making clean as exchanges as he works to throw. He gets rid of the ball with a loose arm action as he works to the target delivering the ball with strength and carry. At the plate, Mitchell sets up in a relaxed stance and starts with high hands. His stride is simple and short getting his foot down on time as he works to get the barrel on plane. His swing packs a punch making hard and consistent contact working a gap to gap approach. On the mound, Mitchell uses a FB/CH mix with the FB sitting 77-78 with some cut and the CH is 69-70 with deceptive FB arm speed and good depth. He works out of the stretch only as he gathers at leg lift and shows a loose arm action. Keeping is direction a little more to the target will help improve his mechanics and consistency with pitches. Overall, Mitchell shows a lot of promising talent as a 2022 grad and will continue to improve.

08/04/2019 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Mitchell is a strong 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. In the field, Mitchell shows a good prep step and takes good angles to the ball. He makes a clean exchange and works to make accurate throws to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Mitchell improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets back into his load and takes a direct swing with fast bat speed, leading to great gap to gap pop. Mitchell can improve as a hitter by maintaining center balance. On the mound, Mitchell gathers over the rubber and finishes square to the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 59-65mph with good movement. Changeup sits from 64-67mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help Mitchell improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Mitchell has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
