Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

01/20/2014 - College PREP - Omaha, NE Mitchell continues to show well on the diamond. Offensively, this lefty delivers the barrel to and through the zone quickly. He drives his lower 1/2 and crushes the ball on a line. At 1B, he shows good prep and works around the ground ball. He moves well laterally and hustles to get into a square fielding position. On the mound, Mitchell works to a tall balance point and works in-line toward the dish. He maintains smooth rhythm as he works at his pace. Increased arm strength will help improve effectiveness on all pitches. Savine is a solid all-around player who should find success on the diamond.

10/23/2013 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Mitchell is a hard worker who hustles all over the field. In California, he showed his versatility as he can play multiple spots on the diamond. Defensively at 1B, he displays active footwork moves well laterally. He gathers well and plays through the ball toward his target. Offensively, he is a difficult out and puts the barrel on the ball consistently. He drives the ball on a line and has the ability to hit to the opposite field. Working on driving his backside lower 1/2 through his swing will help to increase pop off of his barrel. Once on base he is a threat as he has good game awareness and takes the extra bag. Mitchell also threw a a little at the event. His 3-pitch mix fills up the zone. Working on a downhill plane. He drives off the mound and works in-line toward the dish. He throws strikes and gives his defense a chance. Savine is a coachable player who has a positive attitude and who seems to enjoy the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
