06/22/2012 - California Select Training & Competition Williams continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his athletic feet well in attacking ground balls while presenting his clean hands well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength and work on getting rid of the ball quicker. At the plate, Mitchell shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-77 mph with breaking ball displaying 10/4 shape with downward tilt. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With only one year of high school ball under his belt right now, he has upside on the mound, and is a player to watch as he gets older.

04/22/2012 - College PREP - Stockton (Sacramento), CA Mitchell is a tall and strong right-handed pitcher who spends time at third base as well. On the mound, he has a long arm action and good extension with the ability to keep his head focused on the target. His abilities on the mound should continue to develop as he learns to maintain the same speed and tempo of delivery with all his pitches. At the plate, he has a square setup and good balance with his strength lying to the pull side. His offensive tools should continue to improve as he learns to keep his hands working through the hitting zone. In the infield, he has good pre-pitch rhythm and makes accurate throws. To improve he needs to field the ball more out in front. As a future 2015 graduate, Mitchell has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills in preparation for the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
