01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament MJ is the kind of player that makes the players around him better and helps a team win. He has excellent energy and feel for the game - necessities at the catching position. While not the most physical guy, he has a sturdy frame and blocks and receives well. He has excellent game awareness and is not afraid to throw. At the plate MJ has a disciplined approach and a line drive stroke from both sides. His excellent eye/hand coordination allows him to consistently find the barrel both in BP and in game situations. Overall, this athletic switch-hitter is a versatile defender who should produce very well at the next level.

06/07/2015 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA MJ is a lean, athletic C/2B that will graduate in 2017 with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.16 60 time. Pop times are outstanding showing a range of 1.93-2.03 with accuracy and on line carry on his throws as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At 2B, defensive grades are outstanding, displaying big play potential in the MIF. He moves well laterally, covering a lot of ground, displaying range in the MIF. Feet / hands work well together through the fielding process, presenting hands well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he continues to shine as a switch hitter with well above hitting / power potential from both sides through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed and work through a direct / level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus as he makes consistent hard contact as he stays inside the ball to utilize all fields, displaying gap to gap power. With 2 years to further develop, MJ has the makings of a special type player and will catch get a ton of looks from the collegiate coaches, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
