Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

10/07/2015 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Montegomery continues to impress scouts with his foot speed (6.62 60) and mature approach on the diamond. In the OF, he covers a serious amount of ground and works to get behind the ball constantly. As he develops arm strength his OF stock will rise. At the plate, he hits with a quiet head and smooth, simple actions. His line drive / middle of the field approach gives him a high priority in any lineup. Overall, he continues to impress coaches and has a bright future ahead of him.

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Montegomery is a primary OF that will graduate in 2016. In the OF he has a quick first step, takes the proper routes to the ball, and is aggressive with his approach. He has good body control and a clean exchange. His throws have good carry / life and he is accurate. At the plate he starts with an open stance, has strong balance, and good timing. His hands are quick and he stays inside of the ball. He can spray the ball to all fields and he made consistent contact during games. With his speed and contact approach, Montegomery will be an ideal top of the order hitter at the next level.

10/24/2014 - 2014 Under Armour So Cal Classic Upperclass Participant Scrappy player who has a knack for making plays and coming up with big hits. Line drive approach with a middle approach and consistent barrel accuracy. Good patience at the plate and uses legs well around the bases. Gamer.

10/22/2014 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Montegomery showed his best ability to date at the UA So Cal Classic with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he showed good balance and got his hands activated to launch. He was short and quick to contact and displayed plus hit ability. He showed the ability to perform in different situations, even in pressured spots. He has present pop to hit, and with more general strength from a work-out program will increase his pop. Defensively, he positioned himself per situation properly and took good angles to balls. He had a quick first step and made plays with a sure glove. Playing through more aggressively with his feet will help add strength to his arm. All in all - Montegomery is the type of positive leader you want on your team.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Monty is a hardworking OF with plus makeup as he is a great team player and is very coachable. In the OF, he utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. He reads balls well off the bat and gets great jumps as he covers a lot of ground, displaying range. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic / squared stance with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a short / direct/ level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a solid eye at the plate as he was 3 for 6 with 3 BB and a 2B. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to use his lower half more.

06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Montegomery continues to improve and impress with his fluid actions on both sides of the ball. He has improved his 60 time to a 6.90 which puts him on track to be a plus runner in the future. Defensively, he has all the moves and makes OF play look easy at times. He works behind the ball well, is clean off the bat and will benefit from a long toss program and continuing to develop his communication skills in the OF. As a RHP, Montegomery did very well by pitching to contact and staying within himself. He has a solid delivery with smooth rhythm and tempo and will benefit from using his lower half more aggressively to improve velocity. At the plate, Montgomery showed improved bat speed with a similar short line drive path to the ball. He used his lower half well and should continue to work on keeping his hips back and stride soft to allow him to access the power generated in his lower half. Overall, Montegomery is a very talented young player with a bright future if he continues to work hard in the game and on the bases where he needs to work at his steal breaks to fully utilize his best weapon, foot speed.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition in Arizona Montgomery is a lean, lanky OF that will graduate in 2016. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 6.94 60 time. Feet are quick, athletic as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through well with his body. He displays fluid actions with hands / feet working well together. Throws are accurate with carry through his target. At the plate, he shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Hands are loose, working through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel displaying a solid line drive approach. At the event, he was 3 for 8. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard. With 4 years to further develop, Montgomery has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he improves.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
