11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 12-14) Montgomery continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At SS, defensive abilities have improved as he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft/clean and but needs to present more out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, power potential has improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent hard contact through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. At the event, he was 3 for 6 with a 2B. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

10/06/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Washington (Pittsburgh), PA Montgomery is a 2-way player who plays SS and OF. In the INF, Montgomery has athletic actions, good lateral movements, and he works through the ball. He makes plays consistently, his exchange is clean, and he throws with some accuracy across the diamond. In the OF, Montgomery has good range, he covers ground well, and he takes good angles to the ball. He makes plays and hits his cut off man. Offensively, Montgomery has a square/athletic stance, he loads well, and swings aggressively. He has a good feel hitting to the pull side and he uses his lower body well. Overall skills can improve with work on the following.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
