07/09/2014 - National Tryout - Minnetonka (Minneapolis), MN Morgan only showed as a catcher at the event but continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by continuing to increase foot quickness. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved, now showing slightly above average through an athletic setup. Hands work through the ball, creating extension and he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to utilize his lower half more. Pop times showed in the low 2.30 range and will continue to drop as he works to get rid of the baseball quicker and builds more arm strength.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at Pirate City Morgan is a lean, solid catcher that will graduate in 2017. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.21-2.34 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level as he continues to develop. At the plate, he shows a squared with balance setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick, and work through direct / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact with ball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and loves to compete. With 3 years to further develop, Morgan has potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
