Official Scouting Report

01/13/2012 - Arizona National Spring Training - 2012 (Pre HS) Morgan is a 2016 graduate who plays 1B/RHP. At First Base he needs to work on the agility drills both for speed and efficiency. Also it will help Morgan continue to polish his basic fundamentals (fielding position, hands, approach etc). We would also like to see him get on a long toss program to strengthen his arm. On the mound he displayed very good control, good arm action and a solid delivery. He uses his body well and is direct to the plate and he works quickly. He will need to develop off-speed pitches (CB/CH) and be careful to keep his front side closed. At the plate Morgan made good adjustments. He will need to find an athletic setup, develop a smooth stride/load and use his lower half (this is where he will gain power). Morgan is a very nice kid who is coach-able, he made good adjustments at camp. If he continues to work hard and make adjustments there is no reason he cannot be successful.

11/06/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Sacramento, CA Morgan is an average sized 1st baseman with a thick frame. Defensively, Morgan has firm hands, playable feet, and he keeps the ball in front of his body. He is aggressive to the ball, gets dirty, and he square his body well to his target. Morgan has a clean exchange, and he throws with a short arm action with consistency to his target. At the plate, Morgan has a square set-up, a short stride, and he makes consistent contact. He is an aggressive hitter who shows the ability to work the ball to the opposite field. Abilities can improve if Morgan can work on the following.

Defense
1. Pre-pitch actions
2. Play lower to ground
3. Field out in front more
Offense
1. Rhythm / Timing
2. More lower 1/2
3. Shorten swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
