06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Nate is an athletic and talented 2020 Catching prospect that made several adjustments throughout the week. Behind the dish, Nate has an athletic stance, presents a low/early target, and works behind the ball. He controls balls south of the strike zone well and has smooth actions on the corners of the plate. He leads with his glove and controls balls with his chest. He anticipates balls in the dirt and recovers the ball well. He's slow coming out of his secondary when throwing but makes accurate throws. He needs to create momentum into the ball and exchange the ball in front of his body. At the plate, Nate loads his hands back into the drive position, he creates backside drive with his lower half, and has good rhythm in his swing. He looks for the ball middle-in and has a pull side approach. He's aggressive on the bases but needs to read dirt balls more efficiently. Nate has tremendous upside and we hope to see his progress in the future.

09/02/2018 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Nate is a solid, strong catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times showed a range of 1.95-2.20 with accuracy / carry on his throws. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Hands are soft / sure and he tracks balls well through the receiving process. He uses his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will get outs at the next level. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work to and through the baseball, creating extension. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Nate has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
